Navigating Behavior Incident Logging

Panorama for Positive Behavior supports district leaders and school level educators in fostering positive behavior to improve school climate and equitable learning experiences for every student. The Behavior Logging component allows educators and school administrators to log and manage major and minor behavior incidents.

We will walk through how school administrators and educators can: 

Recording Major and Minor Incidents 

Educators can record important information about major and minor incidents including the behavior type, students involved, the location, date and time of the incident, and optionally any additional notes about the incident in any school or teacher-level dashboard. 

In the school and teacher dashboard(s), the Active Major Incidents tile provides you a quick view of major incidents that require action, such as needing to be submitted for review or recent drafts. access to log minor and major incidents, and the option to view all recorded incidents. The Active Major Incidents tile will highlight which incidents need to be reviewed, or are in draft mode. (Figure 1.)

To record a minor or major incident, select the “Log an incident” button in the Active Major Incidents tile (Figure 2.).

You will have the option to select whether you would like to record and keep track of a major or minor behavior incident (Figure 3.). Select the behavior type incident you would like to log and then click “Continue”.

The severity mappings and behavior types for minor and major incidents are predetermined by the school site to align to your school and/or district needs. Recording Minor Incidents 

Select “Minor” and click the “Continue” button to record a minor incident. Educators can record important information about minor behavior incidents when they occur including (Figure 4.): 

  • The behavior type (A)
    • The behavior type will provide a list of minor incidents to select from. The behavior incident types listed in the dropdown will be predetermined by your school/district. 
  • Students who engaged in the behavior (B)
  • The location, date, and time of the incident (C)
  • Any additional notes about the incident (D)

Once you click “Submit”, you will see a banner letting you know the minor incident has been recorded. From there you will be directed to your school or teacher level dashboard (Figure 5.).

Recording Major Incidents 

When an incident action is classified as major incident behavior, Panorama’s Behavior Logging component will adjust the logging process to include additional key pieces of data. You can begin to draft the incident in the system to start any student support workflow with administrators or student support staff, and return to enter more details about the incident at a later time.

Similar to minor incidents, you can provide information on the type of behavior incident, the students who engaged in the behavior, location, date and time, and any additional notes and context for supporting the selected students. For major behavioral incidents you can add additional details such as (Figure 6.): 

  • Information about on what occurred before and after the incident (A)
  • Information on why you think the student may have engaged in the behavior (B)
  • Whether seclusion and/or restraint were used in response to the behavior (C)
  • Submit as a draft or for review (D)

View your Minor and Major Incidents 

You can view all minor and major behavior incidents you have access toby clicking “View all records”in the Active Major Incidents tile found on the school and teacher level dashboard (Figure 7.).

On the Behavior Incident Records page, you can review the date, incident type, severity (minor or major), and status of all incidents within the school. The amount of incidents you have access to will vary on your role and level of access. Clicking the plus sign on the left of each incident, will expand and provide essential details pertaining to the incident selected (Figure 8.).

Revising and Submitting Major Incidents 

Depending on your role and level of access you can review submissions or edit from the Active Major Incidents tile.

As a teacher, if you submitted a major incident for review, you will be able to go back and edit any draft or submitted incident (Figure 9.). Clicking “Edit” will take you to the Log Incident page where you logged the original incident. Teachers will only have access to their student roster and any incidents they have submitted for review.

Teachers who have access to the Boost Mobile app and Behavior Logging component, are able to log major and minor incidents from the teacher dashboard or Behavior Boost. 

As a school administrator, you will have the option to review submitted incidents from other teachers within your school or, edit and submit the major incidents you have logged. (Figure 10.) School administrators will have access to view all school level incidents recorded by themselves or teachers within the school.

Major incidents will have a “Review” button to the right of the incident log, for all incidents that need to be reviewed before submitting (Figure 11.).

Clicking “Review” will direct you to the Log Incident page, where you provide any additional details about this incident, edit the incident log, delete, or submit (Figure 12.). As an administrator you will be able to specify the outcome of the incident.Once submitted in the live Positive Behavior platform, the major incident will no longer be considered active and won’t show on the major incidents list.

Specifically for Major incidents, Panorama also offers a nightly data export flow so that you can also store these major incidents in your SIS. Your district can access and import those records into your SIS using your SIS' batch import process, outside of Panorama.
