When you complete an assignment in Class Companion, you move through a guided experience designed to help you understand expectations, get feedback right away, and improve your work over time.
This article walks you through what you’ll see and do from start to finish, so you know what to expect at each step and how to use feedback to strengthen your work.
Overview: What You’ll Do
You will take the following steps:
- Log in using your Class Companion account.
- Select one of your classes from your homepage.
- Open the assignment you’re working on.
- Read your teacher’s instructions.
- Write and submit your first response.
- Review instant feedback aligned to the rubric.
- Revise and resubmit your work if multiple attempts are allowed.
- Check your progress and, if needed, share a reflection on your feedback.
Walking through the student flow can help you anticipate where students might need extra guidance. You’ll be able to spot moments that may require modeling or clarification, such as how to interpret rubric feedback, when to submit a new attempt, or how to use feedback constructively to strengthen their next draft.
Step-by-Step: What You’ll See and Do
1. Logging In
After logging in through your school’s system, you’ll land on your Class Companion homepage.
Here, you’ll see:
- A welcome message at the top.
- All of the classes you’re currently enrolled in.
- A note showing how many assignments are available in each class.
To get started, click the class you’re working in.
2. Opening the Assignment
Once you open a class, you’ll see a list of assignments for that course.
For each assignment, you can see:
- The assignment name.
- Its status (not started, in progress, complete, or missed).
- Due dates and scores, if available.
Click the assignment title to open it and begin working.
3. Getting Oriented on the Assignment Page
When the assignment opens, you’ll see everything you need to get started in one place.
At the top of the page, you’ll find:
- The assignment title.
- An introduction explaining what you’re expected to learn or demonstrate.
- Any reading excerpts, images, or reference materials your teacher included.
Below that, you’ll see each question you need to respond to.
4. Review Rubric
Before you start writing, you can click View rubric next to a question.
The rubric shows:
- What your teacher is looking for in your response.
- How points are earned for each part of the question.
- What stronger responses include.
Reviewing the rubric can help you understand what to focus on as you write.
5. Writing Your Response
Under each question, you’ll see a response box where you can type your answer.
As you work, you can:
- Click Save draft to keep your work without submitting.
- Continue editing until you’re ready.
You’ll also see how many attempts you have left before submitting.
When you’re ready to get feedback, click Submit.
After you submit, you’ll see a brief loading screen while feedback is generated. This usually takes about 15–20 seconds.
6. Receive Instant Feedback for Review
Once feedback appears, you’ll see:
- A performance level based on the rubric.
- Specific comments highlighting what you did well.
- Suggestions for how to improve your response.
The feedback is meant to guide your thinking and help you decide what to revise next.
7. Revising and Trying Again
If your teacher allows multiple attempts, you can revise your response using the feedback you received.
You can:
- Read feedback from your previous attempt.
- Edit your response directly in the text box.
- Submit again to receive updated feedback.
Each attempt is another opportunity to improve your work.
8. Disputing Feedback (Optional)
If you believe the feedback missed something important, you can click the flag icon and select Dispute score.
This allows you to:
- Explain your thinking in a short reflection.
- Clarify what you were trying to show in your response.
- Ask your teacher to review your work more closely.
The system keeps your highest score unless your teacher chooses to update it.
9. Viewing Your Progress
After you finish an assignment, you can return to it at any time to review:
- Feedback from each attempt.
- Your score history.
- Any comments your teacher added.
You’ll only see your own work and progress.
